This course, Digital Language: Users and Technology, explores the intersection between linguistic practices and digital technologies through advanced frameworks of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) and Discourse Analysis. Students will critically investigate how digital media shapes language use, meaning-making, identity formation, social interactions, and power relations within online contexts. By employing theoretical and empirical approaches from SFL and Discourse Analysis, the course prepares students to design and conduct original research, analyze multimodal digital texts, and ethically interpret digital language data. Students will develop robust analytical skills, publishable research expertise, and professional competencies for navigating linguistic phenomena in an increasingly digitized world using interactive lectures, case studies, critical literature reviews, and team-based projects.
